SYDNEY, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Bank of Thailand Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul said on Thursday he is not worried about capital outflows from U.S. Federal Reserve tapering.
"It's not so much an issue for Thailand because overall our economy is balanced," Prasarn told reporters on the sidelines of an Institute of International Finance conference in Sydney.
Stocks, bonds and currencies in developing countries have swung wildly in recent months following the U.S. Federal Reserve's tapering of its quantitative easing programme.
Currencies in Turkey, South Africa and Russia suffered violent sell-offs as the gusher of cheap dollars that had poured into their economies dried up.
Prasarn also said Thailand's economy is balanced, with growth expected to pick up in the second half of the year to around 3 percent.
