BRIEF-Gold Fields says unit named in Federal Court of Australia proceedings

JOHANNESBURG, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Gold Fields Ltd GFIJ.J :

* Unit St Ives Gold Mining Co named in court proceedings by Ngadju people in

relation to native title claim

* Proceedings have been set down for hearing in March 2014 but a decision is

not expected for between 6 to 12 months

* Difficult to provide definitive guidance on potential consequences for St

Ives if the Ngadju group are successful

* Gold Fields is strongly of the view that the assertions made by the Ngadju

people are unfounded and without merit
