Australian dollar gains after upbeat housing data

SYDNEY, March 4 (Reuters) - The Australian dollar AUD=D4 rose on Tuesday after housing data far exceeded forecasts, reinforcing views of a steady interest rate outlook.

The Aussie gained a quarter of a U.S cent to $0.8947, up from $0.8927, in early trade. News Search ID:nS9N0KH00R

It touched a one-month low of $0.8891 on Monday with investors awaiting the outcome of the Reserve Bank of Australia's policy meeting at 0330 GMT.

Economists expect the central bank to keep rates on hold at a record low of 2.5 percent.
