Markets ended on a quiet note on Friday, as investors hunkered down ahead of the critical French election results; gold finished $2/ounce higher on the day, while silver lost modest ground to end below $18. Platinum and palladium ended with more substantial losses, in line with the weaker tone we saw in base metals. The dollar did not do much against either the Euro or sterling, but finished stronger against the yen.
