Precious metals retreated on Monday, buffeted by a stronger dollar and soaring US equity markets whereby all three indices set new record highs. The greenback picked up a head of steam on perceptions that President Trump is now steering a much more conventional course when it comes to foreign policy and is avoiding the radical rhetoric that characterized his first two weeks in office. In fact, the dollar hit a three-week high against a basket of currencies on Monday after gaining the most ground against the yen, which sank to a two-week low and ended up near 113.80.
